Summary
TaoTronics LED Grow Light Bulb has 12 ultra bright LEDs (3 blue & 9 red). Among all the bulbs we reviewed, this product had one of the strongest output for its size/power. This efficiency really helps in every circumstance (when the plant need extra boost of light, or a few of sun, raining, snowing, dark indoor etc).
The focus on reducing the power consumption on this one has great results. High luminous efficiency and long service life. The electronics inside are stepping down the voltage and we actually saw an almost 20% decrease in power consumption (compared to similar lower quality products).
The outside is constructed in a pure heat-sink fashion. It does not generate any noticeable heat even when we used it 16 hours a day. A great way to have a better control on your temperature.
The wavelength and spectrum of this growing lamp can be fully absorbed by the plants photosynthesis. There is no energy waste like fluorescent lights etc. This plant growing light can rapidly improve the health of plant and growing, generally more leaves popping up within 2 weeks of using this growing lamp on a daily basis.

When comparing grow lighting options there is a lot of information provided that simply does not cover the important characteristics of the equipment. For example, light “watts”: the watts of a light is a measurement of the power consumed. So it does not tell you anything about the quality of the light delivered. However, Watts can be important for determining your future electric bill, your thermal signature and for comparing the relative size of the light. But not for the quality of the lighting delivered. Hence, the two key measurements that matter in comparing the quality of the light delivered are the spectrum that the light includes (ie, the colors the light creates).

Our Verdict
Pros :
- Best output/power consumption rating among all LED grow bulbs of this category – ultra bright LEDs.
- Heat management becomes really easy when using these bulbs, very low emissions.
- This was simply the best LED grow bulb we reviewed for hydroponics settings.
Cons :
- Only 1 year warranty, which doesn’t match the competitors, but given the quality of the support and the product itself we don’t see this as a major concern.
